Aeolian Scrawler is a generator of creative text, based on a user-created general pattern consisting of a word, phrase, paragraph, or multiples of these things. A subset of user-selected words is randomly chosen to fill in the pattern, and the pattern and words can be used multiple times to generate variant text. The generated text may be saved for other uses. The pattern can be saved for future use too.
Aeolian Scrawler can be used to create poems, stories, and ideas. Creative works are a likely application, yet even a slide presentation or scientific article could use the power of Aeolian Scrawler to have generated for it something original and interesting.
At the very least, the program can be used for amusement, without needing to save the generated text. At the other end, the program could be a tool aiding in the creation of a master work of fiction, epic poetry, song lyrics, or perhaps even text useful in describing a strange, new biological discovery.
For an example, please see the screenshot. On the left are word lists (these are completely configurable as the user wishes to use them, not needing to be as imaged). The main screen shows a word pattern at the top, based on the lists, with many of the pattern elements being variables that randomly receive text from lists they correspond to. The bottom of the main screen shows one of many possible outputs based on the pattern. For a new output, the “Create Output" button on the bottom can be clicked. Favorite results can be saved (see the rightmost pane), as can favorite patterns, which can be reused.
